Win the Net, Win the Point
In padel, control of the net is everything. The team at the net dictates the tempo, applies pressure and forces errors. If you and your partner are stuck at the baseline, you are defending. The goal should always be to transition forward together.
Use the lob to move your opponents back, then advance as a pair. Move in sync. If one player goes forward and the other hesitates, gaps open and points are lost.
Master the Lob
The lob is one of the most important shots in padel. It resets pressure and creates opportunity. Many UK club players try to force passing shots when under pressure. A well placed lob gives you time to recover position and often forces a weak overhead.
Practise height and depth. A good lob clears your opponent comfortably and lands near the back glass. Too short and it becomes an easy smash.
Play Percentages, Not Highlights
Padel rewards consistency. Avoid going for low percentage winners down the line. Use the cross court angle, which gives you more margin over the net and a larger target area.
Keep the ball in play. Make your opponents earn points. As standards rise in UK competition, matches are often decided by who makes fewer unforced errors.
Communicate Constantly
Padel is doubles by design. Talk between points. Call balls early. Decide who takes middle shots. Strong partnerships win more matches than strong individuals.
